Monday, November 10, 2008 - Day 3

Quote of the Day: Whether it is the best of times or the worst of times, it is the only time we have. – Art Buchwald

Breakfast –Shake per recipe with strawberries.

Woke up really late since I couldn’t sleep last night. Yeah, one of the things that Dr. G and I are working on is my sleep issues as they related to menopause. And that’s a whole other issue. Sigh. I know I’ll be taking a nap for sure. I just don’t understand what triggers my eating or rather overeating. Still, it’s not eating bad things but sometimes too much like the rice crackers. I know that’s it’s going to take a few days but I do know I’m already starting to feel better overall but still have a way to go. I’m just hoping I can write today.

Lunch – 2 chicken kickers, 1 piece pizza w/green peppers

Just didn’t feel like cooking myself with two bottomless teenagers in the house. It was easier to order pizza. The boys ate all the kickers other than the two I had as well as a whole pizza. How can they get away with that? I understand it’s a metabolism thing but I guess I don’t understand why it slows so much when one gets older. I guess I’ve got to get mine revved up a lot to lose this week. Just don’t feel particularly well today.

Dinner – ground turkey taco salad with avocado, 1 tablespoon light cheese, 1 teaspoon light sour cream

I have had a horrible headache since about 5 p and haven’t been able to get rid of it all day.

And my family has made it worse by arguing all evening about various different things. My 16 yo always wants to know everything even though it might be none of his business whatsoever. He drives his poor father crazy and won’t stop for anything. One day he’ll do something that can’t be undone.

Snacks – banana, rice crackers, cottage cheese

Steps –1774

Exercise – Today was a day off due to my headache. It doesn’t abate but I am very tired and will try to go asleep anyway. Sigh. This is a definite something I cannot fix and at this point I’m not even sure if it can ever be fixed again. I sure do hope things get better because I don’t know what will happen.

Journal

Nothing more to say. Headache is bad.

Took supplements before I went to bed.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Sunday, November 9, 2008 - Day 2

Quote of the Day: We don’t know who we are until we see what we can do. – Martha Grimes

Breakfast –Protein shake w/strawberries

I woke up about 6a because one of our cats, Sam, decided she wanted to crawl under the covers. I should have stayed up and exercised or something but I turned on the TV and decided to fall asleep for a little longer. For some reason, I seem really tired and I’m not sure why. For some reason I am really tired and I don’t know why. Forgot my supplements last night and maybe that’s the reason I’m tired, I’m not sure but hope to figure it out.

Lunch – (at Chili’s) chips and salsa, cheeseburger queso (5 bites), chicken fajitas, guacamole, 3 flour torts ( I really should have asked for corn!), lots of Ice Tea.

Sunday is family lunch day. Today it was decided to go to Chili’s and we had a good time doing so! Took a blood sugar for the 16 yo, who is diabetic and knew that I was out of control, it was 113 an hour after I finished my shake. Shake much better today because I used strawberries. Very relaxing Sunday as I watched TV, wrote and watched some boys. Trying to change it at least 1 thing at a time.

Dinner – Santa Fe Chicken soup (small amount of rice), added more chicken, more fresh red and orange peppers, more onions and lots more spice, 1 can of Mountain Dew Soda

Had fun putting my soup together. I think I surprised my husband when I told him I wanted to cook 0 I love to cook but all the negative comments from the peanut galley made me change my mind. Besides who doesn’t like their husband to cook for them. Stopped doing a lot of things because of complaints. We’ll see what happens now. But change is coming – this much I know.

Snacks – 2 banana, apple, tuna, rice crackers,

Steps –3426

Exercise –treadmill 1.5E, 2.3 mph, 21:30 minutes (8:30p)

Lower back area still hurts when walking – starts after about 10 minutes in and I’m wondering if splitting the time between two sessions wouldn’t be better. I might try it tomorrow. Did what I normally do and watched TV while walking.

I did drink a Mountain Dew but I needed the extra caffeine because the boys are here and I need to make sure they get to bed at a normal time.

Journal

Took supplements before I went to bed.

Hope you all had a good day!

Saturday, November 8, 2008 - Day 1

Quote of the Day: You make the world a better place by making yourself a better person. – Scott Sorrell

Breakfast –Protein Shake per recipe. Added blackberries.

Dr. G is right as it doesn’t taste bad at all BUT it is very bland and doesn’t have the sweetness from the berries like I expected. I’m wondering if adding honey might help it. The DH suggested that we mix berries since the BBS aren’t that sweet. Will email Dr. G to ask for sure.

Woke up easily – no lingering hot flash. I also woke up early today to get ready for booksigning.

Lunch – 11:30a – ½ herb chicken salad wrap, ½ philly cheese steak, lots of water

A few spearmint lifesavers (7-8) and okay, I was at a book signing and probably not as good as I should have been. BUT book signings are hard and I need to be flexible. It will all work out!

Dinner – 5:30p – 1/3 plate Nachos, 1/3 basket garlic fries, couple of bits of artichoke dip and garlic bread, 2 cups of coffee 6-8 oz of beer, 2 cups of water. 8:00p – 1 cup green beans, 3 cup brussel sprouts with butter, 1 liter water

After the book fair, we decided to go to a brew pub to relax. I had a great time with my author friends. I was really relaxed and glad I had some social interaction. The book signing was a lot different than we expected and next time we’ll have to prepare. Was still hungry when I came home so decided on lots of veggies to fill me up.

Snacks – 1 apple, 1 banana

Steps –2253

Exercise –I didn’t have a lot of a chance for exercise today BUT what I did manage to do was at least 5 minutes per hour of walking around the book fair. It was more like 10 average as some hours the walking period was longer and sometimes shorter. One good thing was that the home situation was really good when I got home. The guys were very calm and happy! Life is good.

Journal

Still new at this, will work out the kinks as I go.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!

Friday, November 7, 2008 - Preparation Day

Quote of the Day: Don’t have one as this is the very first day journaling.

Breakfast – Unknown

My first visit to Dr. G. went extremely well and I felt that it was very productive. Dr. G. is a naturopath in the area where I live and I felt it very important to do this the right way. I had heard great things about her and have hope all will go well. Funny thing is that I had found her first, referred other people and they are the ones who have told me just how great she is. For me, she gave me a whole laundry list of things and I did manage to go shopping to load up on a lot of fresh foods: veggies, lean meats and fruits. I had really wanted to cook myself but I had a lunch date with a friend Kim T. Afterwards, I was really tired and took a nap. Kim T. and I talked about our possible new place and I’m still not convinced just yet.

Still, I purchased this journal and decided to start today as far as journaling goes. For the food journal, I think I’ll do it as I go meaning meal-journal, meal-journal. I also wanted to start cook in the evenings more if I can ever get my kitchen back. Sigh. Right now the chef, my DH – Gordon, loves it too much to really give it up. I will get there. I even plan to start a blog regarding the whole journey.

Lunch
– This was at the local Golf Course. Salad w/Balsamic & Oil, Linguine w/chicken breast in cream tomato cilantro sauce (last fling), water & coffe.

Food was great and company fine. Told Kim T. about my visit to Dr. G. Talked about a lot of things, some good, some bad.

Dinner – Stir-fry veggies and chicken breast, 1 liter water

Wanted to do the cooking but the DH did it as usual. Will need to have it started before he comes home. The 16yo, Kyle, wants fast food yet again. IMHO pretty horrible for a diabetic yet he did say something about a taco salad.

Read email and enjoyed my favorite sci-fi shows on the Sci-Fi Channel. I love all the tech stuff – it gives me great ideas for my own stories.

Snacks
– 2 apples

Steps – don’t know because I didn’t wear the pedometer today

Exercise – 25 minutes (8:50 to 9:15 p)

Journal

Okay – so I haven’t done any consistent walking recently – just hit and miss. Boy! Can I feel this one! It really hit me just how big my butt and stomach are right now. My lower back and hip joints weren’t happy although I personally feel good. I plan to continue to do this because the long term benefits are worth it.

Took supplements before I went to bed.

Hope this helps some of you struggling as well!

Welcome

Hi Everyone!

Here's where I will be logging my daily progress from an unfit person to a healthy person. All told, I need to lose a lot of weight and every step of my journey will be posted here in hopes that it will help someone.

In order to catch up, since I've been on this journey since mid-Novemeber, I will be posting several days at once until it becomes current.

I hope you all will get something useful from my personal struggle with the battle of the bulge.
